Hilary Paige Mauro was born to Cathy and Dan on August 15, 1989. She has two siblings, Danielle and Ryan. Hilary began gymnastics at the age of four. She trained at Massachusetts Gymnastics Center in Westboro until July of 2004. She switched to Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy to be coached by Mary Lee Tracy. Hilary signed with the University of Georgia.

In 2000, she competed as a level eight. She finished third all-around at Regionals! Hilary moved up to level nine in 2001. She won the all-around state title. At Regionals, she finished sixth all-around and second on floor. This qualified her for the Eastern National Championships. In 2002, she moved up to level ten. Hilary won vault, beam and the all-around title at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished in the top fifteen all-around with a fall! She was also seventh on balance beam. In 2003, Hilary competed as a junior national elite at the US Challenge.

She started her 2004 season off with several open invitationals. She finished fourth all-around at the Little Bigger Invite. She competed at the National Podium Meet. At the American Challenge, she had one of the highest scores as a junior national elite. Shortly after this competition, she qualified to junior international elite. Hilary finished her season off at the US Classic. She made improvements with Cincinnati Gymnastics. She also began to compete as a senior international elite. At the US Classic, she finished 16th all-around. At Nationals, Hilary placed sixth on beam and floor. She also clinched the last spot on the US National Team.

In early 2006, she competed at the USA, New Zealand and Japan meet. She finished fourth all-around. Hilary was selected for the Ghent World Cup. She qualified to bars finals and won a bronze on beam. Hilary had a good competition at the US Classic. She finished sixth all-around. Unfortunately, Hilary had several falls on her first day at the US National Championships. She did come back on the second day. Hilary was later added to the US National Team. She was the non-traveling alternate for the World Championships. In 2007, she competed at the USA v. Great Britain meet in Ireland. She placed second on floor. She finished third on floor at the USA v. the World Meet in Texas.

As a freshman at Georgia, Hilary earned second-team All-American honors on beam. She was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. Hilary competed on vault, beam and floor throughout the season. In 2009, she competed her first all-around meet against Kentucky and Centenary. Hilary won vault against UCLA.
