Stephanie McAllister was born on May 22, 1990. She trained at Wright's American Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2001, Stephanie competed level nine. She finished first on floor and second all-around at Regionals. She placed fourth on bars and beam at Easterns where she also finished seventh all-around. Stephanie competed level ten in 2004. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2005, Stephanie finished second all-around at Regionals. She placed second on vault, bars and beam at JO Nationals. She won the all-around title! In 2006, Stephanie won vault, beam and the all-around at Regionals. She placed third on floor and fourth on vault, bars and the all-around at JO Nationals.

Stephanie continued competing level ten in 2007. She finished first on bars and second all-around at the For Love or Money meet. She finished third on vault at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Stephanie won bars. She placed fourth all-around, making the JO National Team for the third time. During her final year as a club gymnast in 2008, Stephanie won vault and the all-around at the For Love or Money meet. At Regionals, she won bars and floor. Stephanie defended her uneven bars title at JO Nationals. She placed second on floor and seventh all-around.

As a freshman at Utah, she competed in every meet. She competed on all four events throughout the season. She competed on balance beam routine at NCAA Regionals. During her sophomore season in 2010, Stephanie earned second-team All-American honors on uneven bars. She set or tied every career high at the NCAA Championships. Academically, she made the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
