Alexandra McMurtry was born on December 8, 1996. She trains at Richmond Olympiad Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2015.
In 2004, she competed level five. She placed third on vault, floor and in the all-around at the State Championships. She won beam. Alexandra competed level seven in 2005. She finished first on vault, bars, beam and in the all-around at State. She advanced to level eight in 2006, winning vault, bars, floor and the all-around at State. As a level nine in 2007, Alexandra swept the gold medals at State. At Easterns, she finished fourth on bars and fifteenth all-around.
She moved up to level nine in 2008. She swept the gold medals at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed seventh all-around, qualifying for JO Nationals. She ended her season with a 35th place finish. Alexandra continued competing level nine in 2009. She won vault, bars, beam and floor at the Maryland Classic. At State, she swept the gold medals for the third year in a row. She then took home first on vault and second in the all-around at Regionals. Alexandra had a great meet at JO Nationals, placing third on vault, fourth on beam and fifth all-around. She was added to the JO National Team.
After having wrist surgery in the late fall, Alexandra came back to win five gold medals at the State Championships. She again won all five events at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Alexandra placed first on vault, fourth on floor and second all-around.
