Molly Dunn was born on January 5, 1998. Her older sister Maggie is also a gymnast. In 2002, she trained at Arnold's Gymnastics. She then moved to Aim High Gymnastics. She trained there until 2008 when she moved to Brestyan's. She began training at Ace in the summer of 2011. She will graduate from high school in 2016.

In 2005, Molly competed level four. She competed level six in 2006, earning top finishes at the Parkette Invitational and IGI Chicago Style. She moved up to level seven in 2007. She finished fourth on floor at the Brestyan Invitational. Molly won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the State Championships. In the fall, she earned a spot on the National TOPs "B" Team. Molly competed level eight in 2008. She finished in the top ten at the CGA Coaches Spectacular and IGI Chicago Style. She competed at Regionals.

Molly began competing level nine in 2009. She finished first on beam and third all-around at the Parkette Invitational. She placed third on floor at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed second on beam and fifth all-around. She competed at Easterns. Molly missed most of the 2010 season due to injury. She competed on three events at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed second on beam. She moved up to level ten in 2011. She finished first on beam and second all-around at the Parkette Invitational. She won floor at the Starlight Invitational. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. Molly competed at Regionals.
