Taylor Medrea was born on February 24, 1992. She trained at Gedderts' Twistars USA through March of 2008. She then moved to Michigan Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA). She graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2004, Taylor competed level nine. She won vault, bars and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished first on bars and sixth all-around. She placed fourth on bars at Easterns. In 2005, Taylor won bars at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. Taylor won floor at the 2006 Level 10 State Championships. In 2007, she won bars at the California Classic. She finished third all-around at the Motown Madness meet. Taylor won bars at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished eleventh all-around.

Taylor finished second on bars at the 2008 State Championships. She placed second on bars, third on floor and fourth all-around at Regionals. She finished 20th all-around at JO Nationals. In 2009, Taylor won bars at the Kurt Thomas Invitational. She won the all-around title at the IGI Chicago Style. She finished first on floor at the State Championships. Taylor competed at Regionals. In 2010, Taylor competed on bars and floor only at the CGA Coaches Spectacular.

As a freshman at Missouri in 2011, Taylor competed on bars eleven times. She had two performances on beam and seven routines on floor.
