Kayla Mercado was born on May 26, 1993. She trained at Lehigh Valley Sports Academy through the 2008 season. She then moved to Parkettes. She graduated from high school in 2011.
In 2004, Kayla competed level six. She finished fourth on vault at the Friendship Classic. She moved up to level seven in 2005. She competed at the I Love NY Cup.
In 2007, Kayla competed level nine. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. She finished in the top fifteen all-around at Regionals. She qualified to Easterns.
Kayla began competing level ten in 2008. She competed at Regionals. In 2009, she competed at several invitationals including the Brestyan Invitational, Maryland Classic, and Parkette Invitational. She finished fourth on floor at the State Championships. She placed in the top twenty at Regionals. In 2010, Kayla finished second all-around and first on floor at the Excalibur Cup. At the State Championships, she placed in the top ten all-around. Kayla finished second on bars and beam at the Magical Classic in 2011.
