Yoana Michovska was born on December 4, 1994 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She moved to the United States when she was three. She trained at Redwood Empire Gymnastics under her father, Bogi, for several years. She moved to San Mateo Gymnastics in the fall of 2011. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In 2003, Yoana competed level five. She finished tenth at the Zone Championships. She moved up to level six in 2004. She finished in the top twenty at the Zone Championships. In 2006, Yoana competed level seven. She placed fifth at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. Yoana moved up to level eight in 2007. She finished first on bars at the Golden Gate Invitational. She placed third on bars at the Go For It Classic. Yoana won bars at the Wine Country Invitational. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. She qualified to Regionals.

Yoana continued competing level eight in 2008. She won bars, beam and the all-around at the Aerials Invitational. She finished second at the MEGA Invitational. At the State Championships, Yoana won bars. She finished third all-around. She placed in the top twenty at Regionals. She moved up to level nine in 2009. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Cherry Blossom Invitational. She finished second at the Gold Country Classic and fourth at the Golden State Classic. Yoana placed seventh at the State Championships. She finished in the top fifteen at Regionals.

She continued competing level nine in 2010. She won the all-around at the Roseville Invitational. She swept the gold medals at the Cherry Blossom Invitational. At the State Championships, she won bars. Yoana placed second on bars and third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed sixth on floor. She finished 15th all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2011. She placed fourth all-around and first on floor at the Lady Luck Invitational. She placed first on bars, floor and the all-around at the Gymnastics in the Wine Country meet. At the Winter Invitational, she won vault and beam. Yoana won beam and the all-around at the Great West Gym Fest. She placed third on beam at the State Championships. She finished in the top ten at Regionals. Yoana won bars at the JO National Invitational Tournament.
