Ashley Miles was born in San Diego, California on March 3, 1985. Ashley is the second of four children to Milton and Sherine. She has one sister and two brothers. She graduated from Radiance Academy. She began gymnastics in 1990. Ashley was a TOPS National Team Member 1994 and 1995. She trained at HUGS for most of her club career. She did train at South Texas Gymnastics which is now called Aerial Athletics in the final year of her club career. She attended University of Alabama.

Ashley first went elite in 1997. At the US Classic she finished seventh all-around. Her next meet was the US Nationals. Ashley finished 10th all-around and second on vault. Her final meet of the season was the Monja Blanca Invite. She finished first in the all-around and on floor. Ashley was second on the other three events.

In 1998 Ashley finished fourth all-around at the US Classic. She had a disappointing national championships, missing the national team by one spot. In 1999, Ashley finished sixth all-around at the US Classic and tenth all-around at the American Classic. She finished 12th all-around and second on vault at the US Nationals. Ashley competed at the Japan Junior International. She finished fourth all-around.

2000 was her final year as a junior. She made the National Team. Ashley finished up her season at the International Team Championships. She began her first senior season at the American Team Cup. Ashley helped the USA team win. Her next meet was the US Classic. She finished sixth all-around. Ashley had a great meet at the National Championships. She finished fifth all-around and second on vault. After the meet she was named to the World Championships Team. Ashley finished third with the USA team. The highlight of the meet was making the event finals on vault.

Shortly after the season she switched gyms to South Texas Gymnastics. Her first meet of the season was the Spring Cup. Ashley finished first in the all-around and on beam. At the National Podium Meet she finished third all-around and first on vault. Before Nationals Ashley competed at the US Classic. At Nationals Ashley made her last national team. She concluded her club career as a five time national team member, two time TOPS team member and a world bronze medalist.

She began her first season on the University of Alabama's gymnastics team in 2003. At the SEC Championships she finished first on floor. Ashley made the All Sec team on floor. At the NCAA Regionals she won vault and floor. At the NCAA Championships Ashley finished first on vault and third on floor. She made first team All-America on vault and floor.

2004 was a good year for Ashley. She won vault and floor at the Sec Championships. She made All Sec on floor and was named to the Academic All Sec team. Her next meet was the Regional Championships. Ashley finished first on vault, third on bars and first on floor. At the NCAA Championships she finished first on vault, first on floor and third on bars. Ashley was named to the vault, bars and floor All-American First team.

Ashley had another fabulous season in 2005. At the SEC Championships Ashley won the vault, bars and floor titles. She made the All SEC on vault, bars and floor. At the NCAA Regionals Ashley finished first in the all-around, vault, bars, and floor. The final meet of the season was the NCAA Championships. She made first team all American in the all-around, vault, bars and floor. At the NCAA finals she finished second on floor and fourth on vault. Her final meet was the 2006 NCAA Championships. She finished first on vault. She was a Honda Award Winner for top NCAA gymnast.
