Jannelle Minichiello was born on November 19, 1991. She has two sisters, Brittany and Hollie, who are also gymnasts. Janelle trained at Gym & More until 2003. She then moved to Yellow Jackets. She began training at Brestyan's American Gymnastics after the 2005 season. She briefly trained at Gym & More in the fall before moving to Brestyan's American Gymnastics. Jannelle graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2003, Jannelle competed level eight. She finished second all-around at Regionals. Jannelle moved up to level nine in 2004. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. She continued competing level nine in 2005. She placed second all-around at Regionals. She finished first on vault and tenth all-around at Easterns. She moved up to level ten in 2006. She finished second all-around and first on bars at Regionals. She finished fourth all-around at the Brestyan Invitational in 2007. She finished second all-around at Regionals. In 2008, Jannelle placed fourth all-around at the Friendship Classic. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.

Jannelle finished fifth all-around at Regionals in 2009. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2010, Jannelle won vault, floor and the all-around at the Starlight Invitational. She won vault and the all-around at the State Championships. She won the all-around title at Regionals. She ended her club career at JO Nationals. As a freshman at UNH in 2011, Janelle competed on beam throughout the season. She also competed on bars. Janelle was a member of the EAGL All-Academic Team. In 2012, Janelle won beam at Rutgers. She continued to compete beam throughout the season. She was a member of the EAGL All-Academic Team.
