Briel Muhlestein was born on April 13, 1996. She trained at Rocky Mountain Gymnastics in Utah until 2005. She then switched to GTC of Utah for the 2006 season. Briel moved to Olympus Gymnastics in 2009. She moved to Pinnacles in the fall of 2011. Briel began training at USA Gym World in February of 2012. She will graduate from high school in 2014.

In 2005, Briel competed as a level seven. She finished third on bars at States. She did not compete all-around. With her new gym in 2006, Briel continued competing as a level seven. She placed sixth all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational in Arizona. At the Utah Level 7 State Championships, Briel finished third on beam and second on floor. She did not compete on bars.

Throughout the summer and fall, Briel participated in the Talent Opportunity Program. She qualified to the National TOP Testing in Houston. At this test, she finished among the top ten-year-olds in the United States. She was named to the National TOP "B" Team. This let Briel attend a one-week training camp. Briel jumped up to level nine in 2007. She finished second on vault at States. In the summer, Briel qualified to hopes pre-elite. She participated in the US Challenge in Michigan.

She continued competing level nine in 2008. At the Crystal Cup, she won a silver medal on vault. She finished fourth on vault, beam, floor and all-around at the All Olympic Invitational. Briel placed second on bars, beam and the all-around at States. She ended her season at Regionals. She made drastic improvements with her new gym in 2009. She finished second on vault, floor and the all-around at States. At Regionals, she finished third on bars and fifth all-around. She qualified for the Level 9 Western Championships. Briel finished fifth all-around at Westerns! In 2010, she continued competing level nine. She finished fourth on vault at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. She placed second all-around and first on floor at the Vegas Cup. Briel won a bronze medal on vault at Regionals. She competed at the Lady Luck Invitational and Crystal Cup in 2011. In 2012, she won vault and floor at the Lady Luck Invitational. She won floor at the State Championships. She placed second all-around.
