Christine Bao-Thi Nguyen was born on May 8, 1988. She is the daughter of Hien and Tho.She has two sisters, Christine and Crystal. Catherine is a former US National Team Member. Christine began gymnastics in 1994 because a teacher recommended she take classes for fun. Christine trained at WOGA during her elite career.

Christine competed level 10 in 2003. At the State Championships she finished third all-around and second on bars. Her next competition was the Regional Championships. She had a great competition, winning every event. Her final meet of the season was the JO National Championships. Christine finished second all-around, third on vault and fifth on beam. She tested senior international elite in 2004. Christine was able to compete at the US Classic and the team cup the day after. In 2005, she competed the same level. Unfortunately, at the US Classic she suffered an injury during warm-ups. Christine finished first on vault at the Friendship Classic.

She had a great elite season. She finished eighth all-around at the US Classic. At the US National Championships, she placed ninth all-around! This qualified her for the US National Team. Christine began her career at the University of North Carolina soon after Nationals. She attended the World Selection Camp. As a freshman, she won at least one event in ten of the twelve meets she competed. She was an All-EAGL first-team selection on beam and the all-around. She was named the EAGL Rookie of the Week three times. She placed third on beam at the NCAA Regional Championships. She earned the team's coaches award on balance beam and also won the Sunshine Award.

As a sophomore in 2008, she was voted EAGL Gymnast of the Year. She earned first-team All-EAGL honors on all four events and the all-around. She was voted EAGL Gymnast of the Week twice. She won six all-around titles. She won the all-around and vault at the EAGL Championships. She finished second on bars and beam. Christine won all four events and the all-around at NC State. As a junior, she repeated as the EAGL Gymnast of the Year. She earned first-team All-EAGL on beam, floor and the all-around. She was second-team on bars. She earned EAGL Gymnast of the Week for February 24.
