Nicole Johnson was born on November 4, 1990. She trained at DeVeau's Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2004, Nicole competed level ten. She won bars and finished third all-around at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She competed on bars only at Regionals. In 2005, Nicole finished third on floor at the Hard Rock Invitational. She finished second all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Nicole placed second on vault at JO Nationals. She did not compete on floor. Nicole won all five gold medals at the 2006 Fiesta Bowl Invitational. At the State Championships, she won bars.
Nicole continued competing level ten in 2007. She finished first on bars, beam and in the all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. Nicole finished first on bars at the State Championships. She finished tenth all-around at Regionals. In 2008, Nicole placed second on floor at the San Diego Classic and third all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She won beam and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around. Nicole placed second on bars at JO Nationals. She finished 19th all-around. In 2009, Nicole won bars at the For Love or Money meet. She finished first on vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Midwest Open. Nicole won beam and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished first on floor and fourth all-around. Nicole finished seventh on floor, tenth on bars and 12th all-around at JO Nationals.
As a freshman at Arizona State, Nicole competed on bars and floor at every meet. She also competed on vault.
