Nina McGee was born on May 25, 1993. She trained at Hyde Park Gymnastics through the 2006 season. She then moved to Gym-Nation. Nina began training at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy in the spring of 2010. She graduated from high school in 2011.

In 2004, Nina competed level seven. She moved up to level eight in 2005. She won vault and the all-around at the Buckeye Classic. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. She placed third on floor at Regionals. She finished third all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational in 2006. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won vault, floor and the all-around. Nina moved up to level nine in 2007. She finished second on floor at the For Love or Money meet. She won vault at the State Championships. In 2008, Nina won vault and floor at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. She placed first on floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Buckeye Classic, she won vault and floor. She finished third all-around at Regionals. Nina placed third on vault, first on floor and third all-around at Easterns.

Nina began competing level ten in 2009. She won beam and floor at the Twistars Invitational. She finished first on vault and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the State Championships, Nina won the all-around title. She placed third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she won floor. She finished ninth on beam and 25th all-around. In 2010, Nina finished first on vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the TOPS Super Challenge. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Buckeye Classic, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. Nina placed third on floor at the Nastia Liukin Cup. At the State Championships, she placed first on floor and third all-around. Nina won floor at Regionals. In 2011, she finished first on bars, beam and floor at the State Championships. She placed second all-around. At Regionals, she finished first on floor and fourth all-around. Nina placed seventh on bars at JO Nationals. She finished 14th all-around.
