Giana O'Connor was born on May 24, 1994. Her sister, Genna, is also a gymnast. Giana trained at Gymkhana before moving to Gymnasti in 2009. She will graduate from high school in 2012.

In 2003, Giana competed level six. She won floor at State. She moved up to level seven in 2004, taking first all-around at the State Championships. In 2005, Giana competed level eight. She won a silver medal on bars at the Bravo Classic. She placed second all-around at State. Giana ended her season by finishing seventh all-around and second on bars at Regionals. Giana moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished sixth all-around at Regionals. She placed 21st at Easterns. Giana continued competing level nine in 2007.

Her first year of level ten was in 2008. She won vault and finished second all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She competed at Regionals. Giana finished third all-around at the St. Jude Benefit meet. At Regionals, she finished in the top fifteen. Giana had a break out season in 2010. She won vault and beam at the St. Jude Benefit meet. She won the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. Giana swept the gold medals at the Midwest Open. She again took the all-around at the Harley Davidson Invite. At State, she finished second all-around and on bars. She won beam, floor and the all-around at Regionals. Giana ended her season with a third place finish on beam at JO Nationals. She finished eleventh all-around. In 2011, Giana finished first on bars at the St. Judge Benefit meet. She placed second all-around at the Circle of Stars meet. She won bars at the Gateway Challenge. At the Arena Classic, she placed second all-around. She finished first on bars at the State Championships. Giana competed at Regionals.
