Katie O'Rourke was born on December 3, 1991. She graduated from J.E.B Stuart High School in 2010 where she was a member of the rigorous International Baccalaureate Program. She trained at Karon's Gymnastics in Virginia until 2003. She moved to MarVaTeens in Rockville, Maryland, where she trained until her head coach left the gym in November of 2008. Katie then moved to Capital Gymnastics.
In 2003, Katie competed level nine. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. She placed second on beam and floor. By 2006, she was competing level ten. She finished second on balance beam at States. She had a great 2007 season. She won beam at the Crystal Cup in Utah. She finished second all-around and first on beam at the Nation's Capital Cup. At the Maryland State Championships, she won beam and placed third all-around. She qualified to JO Nationals at Regionals. She finished second on beam at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed 28th all-around.
Katie continued to have strong results in 2008. She won beam at the San Diego Classic. She won beam and the all-around at the Nation's Capital Cup. At the Ocean State Classic, Katie won beam, floor and the all-around. She won floor at the Maryland State Championships. At Regionals, she won beam and the all-around titles! She ended her season at JO Nationals.
With her new gym in 2009, Katie finished second on floor at the Excalibur Cup and first on beam at the Capital Cup. She missed February and March because of a stress fracture in her foot. She competed on bars and beam only at States, winning beam and placing third on bars. At Regionals, she qualified for the JO National Invitational Tournament. She won the all-around title! In the fall, she committed to the University of Pittsburgh.
