Katelyn Ohashi was born on April 12, 1997. She began competing with Gymnastics East in Washington. She moved to Auburn Gymnastics for the 2006 season. Her family then moved to Missouri. Katelyn is now training at Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE) under Al and Armine Fong.
In 2003, Katelyn competed level four. She qualified to the State Championships after finishing third all-around at Sectionals. She continued competing level four in 2004. She finished second all-around at the Mystery Classic. She won bars and floor. She finished third on floor at the Desert Devils Classic. At the State Championships, she finished third all-around. She finished third on vault, beam and floor. A month later, she began competing as a level five. She won bars, beam and the all-around title at the Cancun Classic. She finished second on vault and floor. By the end of the season, Katelyn was competing level six.
Katelyn began competing level seven, the first optional level, in 2006. She finished third all-around at the All-American Invitational. She won beam. Katelyn again won a bronze medal in the all-around at the Flips USA Invitational and California Classic. She won bars at the California Classic. At the Vegas Vacation meet, she won bars, floor and the all-around titles. She moved up to level eight in 2007. She won bars and floor at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. At the Hall of Fame Invitational, she won bars, floor and the all-around titles. Katelyn finished fourth all-around at States. She won bars.
In 2008, Katelyn competed level nine. At the Dragon Invitational, she finished first on floor and in the all-around. At the Level 9 State Championships, she won bars, beam and the all-around titles. She finished third on vault and floor. Katelyn won gold medals on bars, beam, floor and all-around at the Regional Championships. She concluded her season at Westerns. She won bars, floor and the all-around titles!
As a level ten, Katelyn had a great 2009 season. She won the Dragon Invitational. In addition to the all-around title, she also won beam. At the Palm Beach Invitational, Katelyn earned her international elite compulsory score. She had the highest score. In the optional portion, she earned her pre-elite score despite a rough bar routine. She totaled the second highest score on both beam and floor. At the Level 10 State Championships, Katelyn won vault, bars, beam, and the all-around. At Regionals, she finished second all-around despite a fall on balance beam. She won floor. At JO Nationals, Katelyn placed fourth all-around, earning a spot on the JO National Team. She finished second on bars and first on floor. She fell on beam. Katelyn qualified to junior international elite at the Parkettes National Qualifier. At the US Classic, she finished ninth all-around. She placed fifth on beam and fourth on floor.
