Kailyn Ono was born on May 19, 1992. She trained at American Gymnastics Academy during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2001, Kailyn competed level five. She finished third on floor at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2002. She won floor at the State Championships. She finished second all-around. Kailyn competed level eight in 2004. She won beam at the Flips USA Invitational. She finished tenth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished fifth all-around and third on vault. She moved up to level nine in 2005. She finished third on vault at the Flips USA Invitational. She won vault at the San Diego Classic. Kailyn placed second all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational. She won the all-around at the California Classic. At the State Championships, she won bars and the all-around. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. At Level 9 Westerns, she placed ninth on vault, sixth on bars, eighth on floor and fourth all-around!

Kailyn moved up to level ten in 2006. She finished second on bars at the Flips USA Invitational. She placed fourth all-around at the Long Beach Open. Kailyn won the all-around at the California Classic. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed third on bars. In 2007, Kailyn finished third all-around at the Flips USA Invitational. She finished first on vault and second all-around at the State Championships. She finished seventh all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.

In 2008, Kailyn finished fourth all-around at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. She did not compete in the championship season. Kailyn finished fourth all-around at the 2009 Glider Invitational. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed seventh all-around. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2010, Kailyn finished fourth all-around at the Classic Rock Invitational. She swept the gold medals at the Malibu Coast Challenge. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. Kailyn finished tenth all-around at Regionals.
