Karissa Pearce was born to Tina and Randy on July 5, 1989. She has one sister, Kristen, and one brother, Dillian. Kari began gymnastics in 1991. She trained at Splitz Gymnastics until 2004. She then began competing for Geddert's Twistars. She stayed there until the end of her club career.
In 2003, Kari competed as a level nine. She finished second all-around at Easterns. She was also second on vault. She moved up to level ten in 2004. She won the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. At States, she finished first all-around. She also won vault. Her final meet of the season was JO Nationals. Kari placed fourth on vault. She finished in the top twenty-five all-around.
She continued competing as a level ten in 2005. She won the vault, beam, floor and all-around titles at States. At JO Nationals, she finished sixth all-around. Kari won the vault title. She was also second on floor. In 2006, she finished third on vault, bars and in the all-around at Regionals. She won floor. At JO Nationals, Kari placed fourth all-around. Her senior year was in 2007. She finished first on vault, bars, floor, and in the all-around at States. She was third on beam. At Regionals, she won the all-around title. Her final club meet was JO Nationals. Kari placed second all-around and first on vault!
As a freshman at the University of Michigan, she was on the All-Big Ten Second Team. She competed on vault and floor throughout the season. She finished second on vault at the State of Michigan Classic. She won vault for her first collegiate title at the Maryland Quad Meet. She earned the U-M Unsung Hero Award. Kari struggled with an injury during her sophomore year. She mainly competes on vault. She was on the Academic All-Big Ten team.
