Samantha Perino was born on May 10, 1989. She trained at World Class Gymnastics in Virginia through the 2003 season. She then moved to Ocean Tumblers. Samantha graduated from high school in 2007.
In 2002, Samantha competed level nine. She placed third on beam at Easterns. She finished 22nd all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2004. In 2005, she won beam at the State Championships. She finished in the top fifteen all-around at Regionals. Samantha finished third all-around at the 2006 State Championships. She finished eleventh all-around at Regionals. In 2007, Samantha placed third on vault and fourth all-around at the State Championships.
As a freshman at Illinois in 2008, Samantha competed on floor twice. She had two exhibition performances on floor as a sophomore in 2009. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and NACGC/W Scholastic All-American honors. In 2010, Samantha led the floor lineup in all fourteen meets. She competed on beam in the final nine meets of the season. She was named the Team's Most Improved Gymnast. Samantha earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and NACGC/W Scholastic All-American honors for the second year.
