Catherine Ellen Perrett was born on October 1, 1986 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is the daughter of Jeff and Jeri. She has three brothers, Chris, Steven and Michael. She trained at Colorado Aerials for most of her club career.

Katie made her first JO Nationals when she was 11 in 1998. In 1999, she competed as a junior national elite and won the National Festival. As a junior national elite in 2000, she won the US Challenge and placed well at the National Festival. In 2001 Katie competed as a junior international elite. By placing 13th all-around at the US Classic, she qualified to the USA National Championships. She ended the meet in 19th place. Katie competed at the US Classic in 2002 as a senior international elite. She did no compete in 2003. Katie came back as a level 10 in 2004. After a rough regional meet she placed second all-around at JO Nationals.

As a freshman at Penn State, she competed on bars at every meet. Katie also saw action on vault and beam. She was the Ben Ten Conference Champion on Uneven Bars. In 2007, she earned All-Big Ten first-team honors. She competed in eleven of twelve meets on bars. She earned seven individual titles. Katie also competed on vault and beam. She retired after the 2007 season.
