Brandi Lynn Personett was born in Liberty, Missouri on May 26, 1987. She is the daughter of Ken and Viki. She has one sister, Lindsey, and one brother, Kenny. She trained at Great American Gymnastics Express until 2001. She then moved to Brown's Gymnastics in Houston, Texas. After the elite coaches left, she briefly trained at Brown's Central in Florida. She returned to Houston with new coaches in 2002. She soon moved to Champion Gymnastics in Katy, Texas.
In 2001, she competed as a level nine. She qualified to the Western Championships. In 2002, Brandi qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic. In 2003, she moved up to senior international elite. Brandi qualified to the US National Championships at the US Classic. Her final meet of the season was Nationals. In 2004, she competed at the National Elite Podium Meet. She placed tenth all-around at the American Classic! Shortly before nationals, Brandi competed at the US Classic. Her final elite meet was the US National Championships. She was out with an injury in 2005. In 2006, Brandi dropped down to level ten. Brandi finished second all-around at Regionals. She finished fourth all-around at the JO National Championships.
As a freshman at Penn State, she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She won vault and the all-around at the Big Ten Championships. She was Big Ten Gymnast of the Week in January. Brandi competed in every meet on vault, beam and floor. She also competed on bars and in the all-around ten times. She won vault four times, beam once, floor six times and the all-around four times. She qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual.
During her sophomore season, she earned the Big Ten all-around, vault, and floor titles. Brandi won the all-around in nine meets. She won vault six times. She earned three Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors. She qualified to the NCAA Championships as an individual. Brandi earned first-team All-American honors after placing fifth on beam during event finals. She earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. She was an NACGC First-Team All-American. As a junior, she earned her third straight first-team All-Big Ten honors. She captured the all-around seven times. She won vault eight times, beam three times and floor in all but one meet during the regular season. Brandi earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week five times. Brandi was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year. She defended her floor title. At NCAA Regionals, she helped her team qualify for NCAA Championships. She earned first-team All-American honors. She finished fourth on floor during event finals.
