Jenny Peter was born on January 12, 1990. She trained at Solid Rock Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2003, Jenny competed level nine. She finished second all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed tenth on beam. She won the all-around title at Regionals in 2004. She placed third on vault, eighth on beam, first on floor and fourth all-around at Westerns. Jenny moved up to level ten in 2005. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on beam and the all-around. She finished eighth on beam at JO Nationals. In 2006, Jenny finished second all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.

Jenny won the all-around title at the 2007 State Championships. She finished first on floor and third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed ninth on beam, tenth on floor and eighth all-around. In 2008, Jenny finished second on beam and fourth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. As a freshman at Stanford in 2009, Jenny competed on vault and bars against Cal. She also competed on vault and bars at UC Davis. In 2010, Jenny competed on uneven bars late in the season. She provided a clutch score to help the Cardinal make the Super Six. She earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-American honors.
