Claire Pierce was born in Livermore, California on January 28, 1986. She is the daughter of Bette and Tim. Claire has one older brother, Travis. She trained at Cal West Gymnastics in California during her club career.

Claire competed as a level ten in 2002. She finished ninth all-around at the JO National Championships. In 2003, Claire continued competing as a level ten. She finished first all-around at the State Championships. She won every event except for vault at Regionals. At the JO National Championships, she finished fifth all-around. She won a gold on beam and a bronze on bars. In 2004, Claire won another all-around state title. She also won Regionals. At the JO National Championships, Claire placed third on bars and second on beam.

In the fall of 2004, she began attending school at Oregon State University. She competed on floor during her first year. She earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-American recognition. In her sophomore year, she was the most consistent beam worker. She competed on floor four times. She was a Pac-10 All-Academic first team member. In 2007, Claire saw action on beam and floor. She competed on beam only as a senior.
