Kyra Platt was born on May 20, 1991 to Wendy Gannon and Eben Platt. She has a younger brother, Torin. She trained at Coast Elite in Ft. Myers, Florida, for over ten years. She was coached by Dave Zwiefelhofer, Kelsey Curran, and Christopher Gewinner. She graduated from Cypress Lake High School in 2009.

In 2001, Kyra competed as a level eight. She finished third all-around at Regionals. In 2002, she moved up to level nine. Kyra finished second all-around at the Regional Championships. At the Eastern Championships, she placed in the top twenty. Kyra repeated level nine in 2003. At Regionals, she finished second all-around again to the same person, Kimberly Jacob. At Easterns, she was in position to win until she had a rough bar routine. Kyra still placed in the top ten all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2004. At the Regional Championships, she won the all-around title! Kyra then competed at the JO National Championships. She finished 13th all-around! After the level ten season, Kyra qualified to junior pre-elite. She competed at the US Challenge.

Kyra competed another season of level ten in 2005. She finished second all-around at the Florida State Championships. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around. Her final level ten meet was the JO National Championships. She had a great competition. Kyra won floor and finished third on vault. Overall, she was second! This qualified her for the JO National Team. After this competition, she began competing as a junior international elite. At the US Classic, she qualified for the US National Championships. Kyra had a good first day at nationals. She did junior international elite again in 2006. She missed nationals by one spot.

She dropped down to level ten following the 2006 season. In 2008, she finished second all-around at the Gasparilla Classic. She won uneven bars. At Regionals, she won vault and beam. She placed second all-around. She finished seventh on vault at the JO National Championships. In November, she signed with North Carolina State University. During her senior season in 2009, she placed second on vault and beam at the Gasparilla Classic. Kyra won the IGI Chicago Style. She also won vault, bars and floor. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. She also placed third on vault and second on floor.
