Veronica Ann Porte was born in Wilmington, California on August 27, 1987. She is the daughter of Bryan and Elizabeth Porte. She has two younger siblings, Bryan and Elizabeth. She graduated from Alhambra High School in 2005. During her club career, she trained at Golden Gate Gymnastics under 1988 Olympian Tracee Talavera.

In 2000, Veronica competed as a level ten. She won the Regional vault title. She also won this in 2002. In 2003, she finished second on vault at States. Veronica was the alternate for JO Nationals. In 2005, she finished second all-around at States. At Regionals, she placed fourth all-around. Veronica competed at the JO National Championships.

As a freshman, Veronica competed in the all-around in all fourteen meets. She was a second team all-WAC selection in the all-around. She had her best meet in the all-around at the WAC Championships. As a sophomore, Veronica qualified for the NCAA Regionals as an individual. She was a first-team All-WAC selection in the all-around after placing third at the WAC Championships. She was a second team All-WAC on vault and beam. She competed in the all-around at the NCAA Regionals. She was named WAC Gymnast of the Week twice.

During her junior season, she was the team's top all-arounder. She was a first-team All-WAC selection on vault. She placed second at the WAC meet. She earned second-team All-WAC honors on beam. She won the all-around at six meet. As a senior, she qualified for the NCAA National Championships as an individual. Veronica finished second on floor at the WAC Championships. She earned first-team honors on floor and second-team in the all-around and on vault. She finished her career with the school record on vault. She performed 211 out of 212 possible routines during her four seasons.
