Khyla Pottenger was born on August 19, 1999. She trained at USA Gymnastics World through the 2009 season. She then moved to Arete Gymanstics.
In 2008, Khyla competed level seven. She finished first on beam and fourth all-around at the State Championships. She made the National TOPs Team. Khyla began the 2009 season as a level seven. She won beam and the all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. She won beam at the WOGA Classic. She then moved up to level eight. She won beam at the Bear Country Invitational. At Regionals, she finished in the top twenty all-around. She made her second National TOPs Team.
Khyla moved up to level nine in 2010. She won beam at the State Championships. She participated in an elite qualifier. She made her third National TOPs team in the fall. Khyla competed level ten in 2011. She finished third all-around at the Gem State Invitational. At the Gliders Invitational, she won beam, floor and the all-around. She did not compete in the championship level ten season due to an elbow injury. Khyla qualified to hopes elite at the elite qualifier at the USAG Open Championships.
