Lindsey Puckett was born in Lilburn, Georgia on April 27, 1987. She is the daughter of Ralph and Gwyn Puckett. Her sister, Courtney, is a former Auburn Gymnast. Lindsey trained at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center under Dan Thaxton. She attended high school at Providence Christian Academy.
As a club gymnast, Lindsey competed as a level ten from 1999 to 2005. In 1998, she finished eighth all-around at Level 9 Regionals. She qualified to JO Nationals five times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005). She won the Atlanta Crown meet in 1999 as a level ten. Lindsey won it again in 2000. She was Georgia State Champion in 2000. She qualified to JO Nationals in 2001 after winning Regionals. In 2002, she finished third all-around. She was also second on vault and beam. Lindsey placed eighth all-around in 2003. She was fourth on beam. In 2005, she finished seventh on vault at JO Nationals after finishing sixth all-around at Regionals.
As a freshman at Auburn, she was named Auburn Freshman Gymnast of the Year. She was named to the SEC Honor Roll. Lindsey qualified to the NCAA Championships by winning vault at Regionals. She was only the second gymnast in Auburn History to win vault. During her sophomore season, she won vault and bars against NC State. She also finished second all-around. Lindsey placed second all-around against Arkansas, LSU and Kentucky. She was on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
During her junior season, she won four all-around titles. They were against Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas and NC State. She won beam against Michigan State. She tied the highest vault score in Auburn history at Denver. Lindsey won vault and beam against Illinois. She won beam, bars and floor at Arkansas. She was named SEC Gymnast of the Week in February. She won vault and floor against Florida and bars and beam against Kentucky. Lindsey was named SEC Gymnast of the Year and Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2008. In 2009, she won 24 event and all-around titles. She had the second-highest beam score in school history. She earned All-SEC second-team honors at the SEC Championships.
