Nitya Ramaswami was born on October 23, 1991. She trained at Cardinal Gymnastics through the 2006 season. She then spent two years with Triad before returning to Cardinal. She graduated from high school in 2009.

In 2005, Nitya competed level nine. She finished fourth on bars and fifth on beam at Regionals. She competed at Westerns. Nitya again competed level nine in 2006, qualifying for Westerns. She moved up to level ten in 2007. She placed third on vault at the California Classic. Nitya finished eleventh all-around at Regionals. In 2008, she finished fourth on floor at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. She finished first on floor and second all-around at the State Championships. Nitya placed second on bars and fourth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.

Nitya continued competing level ten in 2009. She finished third on floor at the Northern Lights Invitational. She finished second all-around at the Chow's Rising Stars Challenge. At the Gopher Women's Invitational, she won beam. Nitya won floor at the IGI Chicago Style. Nitya finished first on bars at the State Championships. She finished fourth on floor at Regionals. At the JO National Invitational Tournament, Nitya won a bronze medal on floor.
