Erin Theresa Rightley was born to Patricia in Florida on November 17, 1984. She trained at Emerald City Gymnastics with Bud Gill and Serra Abel. She was the 1998 Florida Beam State Champion. She also won Regionals. In 2002, Erin was eighth all-around at Regionals.

Her freshman year at the University of Alabama was in 2004. She was an Academic All Sec Team Member. In 2005, she was a Scholastic All American and Academic All Sec. She won these two awards as a junior plus the Louis Each Courage Award. Erin has been a main contributor on floor through her first three seasons. She competed on beam her sophomore and junior years. She also vaulted sophomore year. As a senior, she was a member of the Academic All-SEC Team.
