Ruthie Johnson was born on February 3, 1995. She trains at Central California Gymnastics Institute, CCGI, in Visalia, California. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In the fall of 2006, Ruthie competed level five. She placed second on beam at the Raisin Festival. She finished second on bars at the Halloween Jamboree. She finished in the top twenty all-around at the State Championships. Ruthie competed level six in the fall of 2007. She finished first on bars at the Great Pumpkin Caper. At the Zone Championships, she placed third on beam. Ruthie won bars at the 2008 Tachi Palace Invitational. She competed level seven in March. She finished fourth on bars at the American Kids Cup. She competed at the State Championships.

Ruthie started the 2009 season as a level seven. She won bars at the Gymnastics in Paradise meet. She finished in the top ten at the Vegas Cup, Long Beach Open and Byers Invitational. In March, she moved up to level eight at the Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she finished eleventh all-around. She competed at Regionals. Ruthie continued competing level eight in 2010. She placed second all-around at the Tachi Palace Invitational. She finished second on bars at the Battle in Seattle meet and Byers Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished in the top ten. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. Ruthie moved up to level nine in 2011. She placed second all-around at the Tachi Palace Invitational. She won the all-around title at the Clovis Classic. At the Winter Invitational at Woodward West, she finished first on vault and floor. She placed third all-around. She placed third on vault and sixth all-around at the State Championships. Ruthie finished 14th all-around at Regionals. She was the alternate for Westerns.
