Anna Robey was born to Robert and Alyson on September 5, 1988. She has five younger siblings. They are Brian, Sarah Beth, Mary Kate, Matthew, and Ashley. Anna graduated from Mason High School in 2005. She trained at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy during her club career.

In 2002, she competed as a level eight. Anna won the all-around at States and Regionals. She finished third all-around at the Level 9 State Championships in 2003. Anna finished fourth all-around at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed third on beam and in the top fifteen all-around. Unfortunately, she was injured in 2004. As a level ten in 2006, she finished sixth all-around at Regionals. Her final club meet was the JO National Championships.

As a freshman at Iowa State, she competed on vault and floor throughout the season. In 2008, she earned All-Big 12 academic second-team selection. She competed on vault, beam and floor. During her junior season she was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree. She competed in twelve meets. She was a regular on floor.
