Emily Ruff was born on November 27, 1988. She is the daughter of Jean and Bob Ruff. She has one brother, Adam. Emily graduated from Ovid Bsie High School. She is attending Northern Illinois University on a gymnastics scholarship. During her club career, Emily trained at Twistars USA. She began gymnastics at age five. She trained at Twistars for eleven years.

In 2002, Emily competed as a level nine. She qualified to Easterns. She finished in the top ten on bars. In 2004, Emily finished third all-around and first on bars at Michigan States. She competed at Easterns again. She finished third all-around and first on bars at the 2005 Level 9 Regional Championships. Before Regionals, she won states. She won bars at Easterns! Emily started the season as a level ten but dropped down to nine in 2006. She finished third all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. Emily competed as a level ten in 2007.

She did not compete for the Huskies in 2008.
