Blair McClintock Ryland was born in Falls Church, Virginia on May 25, 1988. She is the daughter of Bill and Sally. She has two brothers, Todd and Jackson. She began gymnastics at the age of six. Blair trained at Capital Gymnastics until the fall of 2006. Before Capital, she trained at Featherstone Gymnastics. She is currently on scholarship at Stanford.
In 2000, Blair competed as a level ten at Regionals. She did not do very well. In 2001, Blair continued competing as a level ten. She won four gold medals at the Virginia State Championships including the all-around title. At Regionals, she just missed a spot to qualify for the JO National Championships. In 2002, Blair qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the National Podium Meet and the American Classic in the spring. Due to a knee injury, her performance at the US Classic was severely hampered. Blair competed junior international elite again in 2003. She qualified to Nationals at the US Classic! Unfortunately, she only could compete bars.
She had to move up to senior international elite in 2004. Blair did well at several elite qualifiers. She did not compete all events at the US Classic. In 2005, Blair competed at the US Classic as well as in 2006. She signed with Stanford in the fall of 2005. As a freshman in 2007, she earned second-team All-American honors on vault. Throughout the season she contributed on vault, floor and bars. As a sophomore, Blair continued competing on vault. She was a Pac-10 All-Academic team member. During her junior season, she competed on vault throughout the season. She also competed on floor six times. She earned Academic Pac-10 honorable mention.
