Alicia Sacramone was born to Fred and Gail in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 3, 1987. She has an older brother named Jonathon. Alicia began gymnastics in 1996. She trained at Gymnastics and More until her coaches opened Brestyan's American Gymnastics. Alicia currently trains with them. She qualified to the National TOPS Team in 1998. She attends Brown University where she is on the gymnastics team.

Her elite competitive career began in 2000. She competed as a junior national elite. At the National Gymnastics Festival, she finished eighth all-around. In 2001, Alicia qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic. She competed as a junior international elite again in 2002. At the US Classic, she finished seventh all-around! This qualified her for the US National Championships. Alicia did well at nationals. She had to move up to senior international elite in 2003. She competed at the USA vs. Japan meet. Her next meet was the American Classic. She finished tenth all-around! Alicia also did well at the US Classic. At Nationals, she won a bronze on floor. She finished fourth on vault. In the fall, she went to France for the Massilla Gymnastics Cup. Alicia placed fourth on vault.

Alicia continued to compete as a senior international elite in 2004. She started her season off at the National Elite Podium Meet in New York. She finished first on vault and floor. Alicia was second in the all-around. Her next meet was the American Classic in Ontario, California. She won floor and finished fourth all-around. She then went to Brazil for the Siegfried Fischer Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Alicia placed second on vault. She was named to the Pacific Alliance Championship Team. She won vault and helped the team win. Her next meet was the US National Championships. She finished second on vault. After a few months off from competitions, she went to Venezuela for the Pan American Individual Event Championships. Alicia won vault and floor. Her next meet was the World Cup in Ghent, Belgium. She finished second on vault. The highlight of the season was the World Cup Final in Great Britain. Alicia won vault!

Her 2005 season was very successful. She competed at the American Cup in Long Island, New York. She won vault and finished second on floor. Alicia went to Europe for the USA/GBR Friendly Control meet. She finished first on vault and floor. Alicia left the USA team to compete at the World Cup in Ghent. She won vault and floor! Her next competition was the World Cup in Paris, France. She finished first on vault. However, Alicia fell on floor. She had a few months off before the US Classic. Alicia finished third all-around and first on floor! At Nationals, she won both vault and floor. She also finished third all-around. Her next competition was the Pan American Championships. She won vault and floor again. Alicia was named to the World Championship team. In Australia, she won floor! She also finished third on vault.

The first season with the new code of points was in 2006. She went to Ghent, Belgium for the World Cup. Alicia did not do well on floor. However, she finished second on vault. Alicia came back at the US Classic to finish third all-around with a fall on bars. She won vault and floor. At Nationals, Alicia surprised many people when she finished fifth all-around. She also won vault and floor. Alicia competed at the World Championships in Denmark. She did not make floor finals because of a leap series. However, she finished second on vault.

In 2007, she did not compete uneven bars at Nationals. She defended her vault title. She finished second on floor and third on beam. She then competed at the World Championships. She qualified for event finals on vault and floor. During team finals, she helped the United States earn the gold medal. In event finals, she finished third on vault and second on floor. In September, she announced she was turning pro. In 2008, she won vault at the US National Championships. She was named to the Olympic Team. She helped the United States finish second. She placed fourth on vault in event finals. After retiring from gymnastics, Alicia returned to elite competition in 2010. She won vault and beam at the US Classic. At the US National Championships, she placed first on vault and second on beam. She helped the United States team finished second at the World Championships. Individually, she placed first on vault and fifth on beam.
