Genny Salvatore was born on October 24, 1989. She trained at Kansas School of Gymnastics through the 2002 season. She then moved to Lawrence Gymnastics Academy. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2002, Genny competed level nine. She finished in the top fifteen at Regionals. At Westerns, she finished 24th all-around. Genny moved up to level ten in 2004. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2005, she placed second all-around at the State Championships. She finished third all-around at the State Championships in 2006. She finished 15th all-around at Regionals. Genny initially signed with the University of Rhode Island in the fall of 2007. After their gymnastics program was discontinued, she earned a walk-on spot at Arkansas. In 2008, Genny finished third all-around at the IGI Chicago Style.

Genny missed both the 2009 and 2010 seasons due to injury. In 2010, she was named the team's Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and NACGC/W Academic Team. Genny returned after four knee surgeries to compete on bars in 2011. She won bars against BYU in her second meet in the lineup. She earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
