Lia Salzano was born on May 26, 1992. She trained at Karon's Gymnastics through the 2005 season. She then moved to Capital Gymnastics. She graduated from high school in 2011.

In 2004, Lia competed level eight. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She moved up to level nine in 2005. She won vault at the Hard Rock Invitational. She placed fourth all-around at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2006, Lia finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She placed second all-around and first on beam at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed second on beam and 13th all-around. Lia began competing level ten in 2007. She finished second all-around at the Surf City Classic. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships.

Lia finished first on beam and the all-around at the 2008 State Championships. She finished fourth on beam at Regionals. In 2009, Lia competed on bars only at the State Championships. She finished eighth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2010, Lia placed third all-around at the State Championships. She finished tenth all-around at Regionals. She finished third on vault and fifth all-around at the JO National Invitational Tournament. Lia won bars, beam, and the all-around at the 2011 State Championships.
