Shana Sangston was born on September 26, 1991. She trained at Southwest Gymnastics through the 2008 season. She then moved to Aspire. She graduated from high school in 2010.
In 2003, Shana competed level eight. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. Shana competed at Regionals. She continued competing level eight in 2004. She placed third on vault at the Vegas Vacation meet. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. Shana moved up to level nine in 2005. She placed third all-around at the Vegas Vacation meet. At the Shamrock Invitational, she finished third all-around. Shana placed sixth all-around at the State Championships. In 2006, she finished second all-around at the Flagstaff Winter Classic. She placed fourth all-around at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals.
Shana began competing level ten in 2007. She finished third all-around at the Shamrock Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished fourth all-around. She competed on two events at Regionals. Shana competed at the Hardrock Invitational in 2008. In 2009, she finished third all-around at the Sun Devil Classic. She did not compete in the all-around at the State or Regional Championships. In 2010, Shana finished first on beam and the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. At the Classic Rock Invitational, she finished fourth all-around. Shana placed second on beam at the State Championships. She finished eighth all-around at Regionals. She competed at the JO National Invitational Tournament.
As a freshman at Arizona, Shana competed in vault seven times and exhibitioned four times. She competed on beam eleven times and exhibitioned once. She was named to the NACGC/W Academic All-American Team.
