Charly Santagado was born on July 22, 1994. Her younger sister, Eriel, is also a gymnast. Charly trained at Brandy Johnson Gymnastics through the 2006 season. She then moved to Kitty's All Stars. She competed for Broadway Gymnastics in 2010 before moving to Orlando Metro Gymnastics- Baldwin Park. Charly is also a competitive dancer and has won many prestigious awards. Charly will graduate from high school in 2012, but will take a gap year and enter college in the fall of 2013.

In 2005, Charly competed level nine. She qualified to Easterns. In 2006, she placed second all-around at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. Charly competed at the US Challenge as a hopes elite. In 2008, she won floor at the IGI Chicago Style. She placed first on floor at the State Championships. At Easterns, she finished first on bars, third on floor and fifth all-around. Charly moved up to level ten in 2009. She won bars at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She placed second all-around at the Gasparilla Classic. At the State Championships, she placed fifth all-around. Charly finished fifth on floor at Regionals. She was the ADA Teen Dancer of the Year.

Charly finished first on vault, bars and the all-around at the 2010 Sand Dollar Invitational. She placed second on bars at the Excalibur Cup. In 2011, Charly won bars at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She finished second on floor at the Excalibur Cup. Charly placed second all-around at the Gasparilla Classic and third all-around at the National Gymnastics Challenge. At the State Championships, she won bars and floor. She finished second all-around. Charly placed first on floor and sixth all-around at Regionals.
