Mizuki Sato was born on January 8, 1989 in Carmichael, California. Mizuki trained at Technique Gymnastics during her club career.

In 2001, Mizuki competed level eight. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. She advanced to level nine in 2002. She placed eleventh all-around at the State Championships. She moved up to level ten in 2003. She finished fourth on bars and seventh all-around at the State Championships. In 2004, Mizuki finished sixth all-around at Regionals, making her first JO National Championships. She continued to improve in 2005 winning floor at the Maryland Classic. At the Hardrock Invite and California Classic, she placed third on beam. Mizuki won a silver medal on beam on her way to finishing fourth all-around at the State Championships. Mizuki finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She ended her season with a top ten performance on beam at JO Nationals.

Mizuki won floor at the 2006 Fiesta Bowl Invitational. She also picked up medals at the Kurt Thomas Invitational and Golden State Classic. Mizuki finished third on bars and fourth all-around at States. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around. At JO Nationals, she placed seventh all-around and fourth on floor. Her final year as a club gymnast was in 2007. She won the all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. At the Hard Rock Invitational, she placed third. Mizuki finished second all-around at States. She won gold medals on bars and floor. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around. Mizuki had a great meet at JO Nationals, placing third all-around! She made the JO National Team.

As a freshman at UCLA, Mizuki was a mainstay in the floor lineup competing in 12 of the 14 meets. She finished third against Cal State Fullerton. Mizuki exhibitioned on the remaining events. In 2009, she competed on vault and floor. She won vault once and floor twice. At the end of the season, Mizuki also competed on balance beam. She received Pac-10 first-team honors on floor. She was named honorable mention for the Pac-10 All-Academic Team.
