Lindsey Schultz was born in Rockford, Illinois on March 17, 1988. She is the daughter of Lori and Rick Schultz. She attended Bryon High School in Bryon, Illinois. After she moved to Colorado, she attended Fruita Monument High School in Fruita, Colorado. Lindsey trained at Enerygym in Illinois. After moving to Colorado, she trained at Grand Junction Gymnastics.

In 1999, Lindsey competed level eight. She finished eight all-around at the State Championships. She finished fourth on beam. Lindsey repeated level eight in 2001. She finished ninth all-around at States. She qualified to JO Nationals in 2003. In 2004, she was an alternate for region 3.

As a freshman at SUU, she competed on vault and floor at the first six meets of the season before an injury. She competed on beam twice. As a sophomore, she competed on vault once. She was hampered by injuries. She was an NACGC-W Scholar Athlete. In 2009, she competed on vault. She finished second at the WAC Championships. Lindsey also competed on floor.
