Shaila Segal was born on October 3, 1995. Shaila was adopted from China just before she turned three. She began gymnastics at Shoreline Gymnastics. Two years later, after a family move, Shaila began training at Deary's Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In 2004, Shaila competed level five. She moved up to level six in 2005. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She competed level seven in 2006. She finished seventh all-around at the State Championships. In 2007, she finished first on beam at the Team Challenge. She placed sixth all-around at the State Championships. Shaila competed level eight in 2008. She finished third on bars and beam at the DGS Northeast Invite. At the Team Challenge, she finished third all-around. Shaila placed in the top fifteen at Regionals.

Shaila began competing level nine in 2009. She won vault at the DGS Northeast Invite. She finished first on beam and third all-around at the State Championships. Shaila won beam at Regionals. In 2010, she won vault at the DGS Northeast Invite. She finished third on vault and beam at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won bars, beam and the all-around. Shaila competed at Easterns. She finished first on bars and beam at the 2011 Team Challenge. She won bars and placed second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won bars, beam and the all-around. Shaila placed first on beam and eighth all-around at Easterns.
