Lauren Sessler was born on December 23, 1987. She is the daughter of Gary and Joyce Sessler. She has one sister, Erica, who graduated from Georgia. She graduated from Brookwood High School. Lauren trained for eight years at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center under Dan Thaxton.

In 1999, she competed as a level nine. She finished second all-around at States. She won vault, bars and floor. Lauren placed third all-around at Regionals. She moved up to level ten in 2000. She finished third all-around at States. Lauren placed eighth all-around at Regionals. In 2001, she won States. At Regionals, Lauren won again. She finished eighth all-around at JO Nationals. In 2002, Lauren won Regionals for the second year in a row. She finished sixth all-around at JO Nationals. Lauren qualified to JO Nationals again in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She did not make them in 2006.

As a freshman in 2007, she did not compete. She was named a first-team Academic All-American by the NACGC. She was also on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. During her sophomore season she competed on vault. For the second year in a row, she was on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was a first-team Academic All-American. As a junior in 2007, she continued competing on vault. She also saw limited action on uneven bars.
