Polina Shchennikova was born on January 7, 1998. She trained at USA Gymnastics World in 2005. She then moved to Stars Gymnastics Village. Polina's sister, Alyona, is also a gymnast. She competed level seven in 2010.

In 2005, Polina competed level five. She won floor at the Utah State Championships. She also placed third on bars. In 2007, Polina made the National TOPs Team. She competed level eight in 2008. She won vault, beam and the all-around at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She placed second on bars. At the State Championships, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. At Regionals, she placed fourth all-around. She won a silver medal on bars. Polina competed level nine in 2009. She won bars at the WOGA Classic. She placed second all-around. At the State Championships, she won bars and floor. She finished second all-around. Polina finished second on bars and ninth all-around at Regionals. She qualified to hopes elite but did not compete at the US Challenge. In late December, she was named to the National Team Training Squad. In July of 2010, Polina qualified for junior international elite.
