Memory Shettles was born on April 7, 1995. She began gymnastics at Tupelo Association for Gymnastics in Mississippi. She began training at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center in Georgia in 2006. She moved to Georgia Gymnastics Academy following the 2008 season.
In 2002, Memory made the Diamond National TOPs Team. She competed as a level six in 2003. She finished second all-around at States. In 2004, Memory moved up to level seven. She won a bronze medal on beam at States. She also made the TOPs National Team. Memory moved up to level eight in 2005. She finished first on floor at States. She qualified to the TOPs National Testing.
Memory repeated level eight in 2006. She finished second all-around and first on beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. At States, she finished third all-around. Memory qualified to Regionals. In the fall, she was named to the National TOPs "B" Team. Memory moved up to level nine in 2007. She finished third on vault at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. She won vault at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational and Hilton Head Island Invitational. At States, she finished third on floor. In November, she finished second all-around at the Huntsville Invitational.
She continued competing as a level nine in 2008. At the WOGA Classic, she won bars and finished third on floor. She won floor at the National Gymnastics Challenge. Memory won a bronze medal on floor at States. She moved up to level ten in 2009. She finished fourth all-around at the Flip Fest Invitational. She won floor at the San Diego Classic. Memory placed third all-around at the Atlanta Centennial Classic. She won beam and finished third all-around at States. She ended her season with a twelfth place finish at Regionals. In 2010, Memory finished third all-around at the Atlanta Centennial Classic. She placed fourth on floor and eighth all-around at Regionals. At the JO National Invitational Tournament, Memory finished third on floor.
