Celia Short was born on November 12, 1987. She trained at Emerald City Gymnastics in Washington during her club career.
In 2000, she competed as a level six. She won vault at the Rainier Cup. By 2002, Celia was competing as a level eight. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She won bars and beam. Celia moved up to level nine in 2003. She qualified to the Western Championships. In 2004, she competed another season as a level nine. Celia won vault and beam at States. She placed fourth all-around. Her first year as a level ten was in 2005. She won a bronze on beam at States. She finished in the top ten at Regionals. In 2006, Celia placed third all-around at States. She finished second on bars and floor. At Regionals, she placed fourth all-around. She won three silver medals on the following events: vault, bars and floor. Celia competed at the JO National Championships.
As a freshman at the University of Washington, she competed on every event at least once during the season. She competed in eleven of thirteen meets on floor. She did not compete the rest of her college career.
