Braie Speed was born on June 5, 1996. She began gymnastics at Mesquite Institute of Gymnastics in the "Mommy and Me" class at 21 months. She moved to Alamo Gymnastics in 2003 and competed levels 5-9. Braie moved to Harris Unlimited Gymnastics School (HUGS) in the summer of 2007 to become an elite gymnast. At HUGS, she was coached by Mike and Laprise Harris. Braie moved to Olympic Hills in Austin, Texas, in the fall of 2008, to be coached by Jeff Beal. In the summer of 2010, Braie moved to Aerial Athletics in San Antonio.

Braie was a Diamond National TOP Team Member in 2003 and 2004 as a seven and eight-year-old. In 2005, she made the National TOPS Team for nine-year-olds. Braie competed as a level seven in 2005. She finished first all-around at the WOGA Classic. At the Texas State Championships, she won the all-around, bars, beam and floor titles! Her last level seven meet was in January of 2006. She represented Texas at the NAWGJ Judges Cup. Braie won the all-around title!

She moved up to level eight in 2006. She finished third all-around at the WOGA Classic. Braie won the all-around title at the Lady Luck Invitational. At Regionals, she finished third all-around and third on vault. She moved up to level nine in 2007. She finished fifth on floor at States. At the 2008 Metroplex Challenge, Braie received her hopes optional score! In May, Braie competed at the National Elite Qualifier. She finished fourth all-around in the hopes division. At the US Challenge, Braie placed second in the compulsories. After the optional portion she finished fourth! She also competed as a level nine at some meets in 2008. She finished second on vault at the Manhattan Classic.

Braie began 2009 by qualifying for junior international elite. In February, she competed at the Alamo Classic as a level ten. She won beam, floor and the all-around. In April, she competed at her first international elite meet at the American Classic. In July, she competed at the National Elite Qualifier for practice. She scored her highest optional score yet, a 54.85. She ended her season at the US Classic. In December, she was named the the US National Team Training Squad. In 2010, Braie won vault at the Texas Prime Meet as a level ten. At the Buckeye Classic, she re-qualified to junior international elite. She also qualified for the US National Championships! At the IGI Chicago Style, she finished fourth on bars.
