Randy Stageberg was born on November 26, 1990 in Norfolk, Virginia to Rick and Sandy Stageberg. Randy has two brothers, Michael (21 yrs. old) and Cody (11 yrs. old). Randy began gymnastics in 1995. Her favorite event is floor. Randy trains at a well known gym in Virginia, Excalibur Gymnastics. She is coached by Jim and Dena Walker.
In 2002, Randy competed as a level 8. At the Level 8 Regional Championships, Randy placed 29th all-around and eighth on her best event, floor exercise. Randy skipped level 9 and went straight to level 10 in 2003. She placed sixteen all-around at the Parkette Invitational. She then placed fifth all-around, first on vault, fifth on balance beam, and fourth on floor exercise at the Excalibur Cup. Randy easily qualified to Level 10 Regionals by placing fourth all-around at the Level 10 State Championships. She was only a couple spots away from qualifying to the Junior Olympic Nationals.
Randy tested elite after the level 10 season in 2003. She passed National Elite and got to compete at the highest competition of National Elite, the US Challenge. She placed fifth all-around in the junior national division. In 2004, Randy once again qualified to pre-elite, the new name for National Elite. Her first elite meet of the season was the American Challenge. She won floor. Her next meet was the US Challenge. She placed second all-around and first on floor exercise. At the conclusion of the season, Randy was named to the National Elite Training Squad based on her performance at the US Challenge.
Randy successfully passed to the International Elite level in 2005. She placed fourth all-around and third floor exercise at Elite Qualifier Optional Meet. The next day, she competed at Parkette Invitational and placed second all-around, fourth on vault, third on uneven bars, first on balance beam, and second on floor exercise. Randy once again did very well at her home meet, the Excalibur Cup. She placed first all-around, second on vault, second on uneven bars, third on balance beam, and first on floor exercise. Randy missed the US Classic due of back injury, but was determined to compete at her first US National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. On Randy's first day of US National Championships, she suffered a few falls on uneven bars and balance beam. She ended up placing twenty-first all-around. Randy changed that in day two of the competition. She impressed the gymnastic fans with her personality on floor exercise. She placed twelfth all-around and tenth on floor exercise. She ended up fifteenth all-around for both of days and made her first National Team!
Randy received her first international assignment at the beginning of 2006 at the National Training Center. Randy and USA team took the title over Japan and New Zealand. Randy also earned a silver medal on vault. She placed 4th on floor and 7th on balance beam as well. Randy once again qualified to US National Championships but as a senior during that year. She made the US Senior National Team and is a co-champion on floor exercise with Alicia Sacramone who is a World Champion on that event. Randy got invited to the Worlds Selection Camp. Sadly, she did not attend the final selection camp due of an injury.
When 2007 came rolling around, Randy got started showing off her new routines and skills at a few local competitions. Not only did she gain some more competition experience, she won two out of 3 meets that she entered. In March Randy was scheduled to compete at the Gymnix International meet in Canada, in the level 10 portion of the competition, with a couple of her Excalibur teammates. The day before competition began, Randy was added to the US team roster to compete along side Sarah Demeo, Amber Trani and Corrie Lothrop, in the International portion of competition. On the first day of competition Randy helped the US team to a second place finish, at the same time placing 3rd in the all around. Not only did Randy qualify to three event for uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, she placed top 3 in all of them. Two bronze medals (uneven bars and balance beam) and a gold medal on the floor exercise.
Randy placed eleventh all-around at the American Classic. She only competed on beam and floor at the US Classic. At Nationals, Randy had trouble on bars both days. In 2008, Randy again competed at the Gymnix International, representing her club. She finished third all-around in the senior division. During event finals, she placed third on beam and first on floor! Randy easily won an Elite Qualifier. At the US Classic, she finished third all-around. She won floor. At Nationals, she placed in the top ten all-around, making the US National Team and qualifying for the Olympic Trials. Unfortunately, Randy was forced to have shoulder surgery in the fall.
She returned from injury to compete for Florida in 2010. She competed on beam and floor. Randy won floor at a tri meet against UNC and Ball State. She finished third on floor against NCSU. Randy was a member of the NACGC/W Scholastic All-American team. In 2011, Randy competed on beam and floor in almost every meet. She also exhibitioned on vault. Randy finished third on beam at Georgia and second on beam against Nebraska and at Arkansas.
