Ali Stakem was born on November 27, 1990. She trained at Hill's Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009. She was a member of the TOPS National Team in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001.

In 2001, Ali competed level eight. She won bars at the State Championships. She moved up to level nine in 2002. She won beam at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. Ali continued competing level nine in 2003. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. She placed in the top ten all-around at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed fifth on beam and 12th all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2004. She placed fifth all-around at the Parkette Invitational. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. Ali did not compete at Regionals. She competed as a junior pre-elite at the American Challenge. Ali competed at the Maryland Classic in 2005.

After retiring from gymnastics, Ali became team manager for the University of Arizona. After her freshman year, she joined the team for the 2011 season.
