Makayla Stambaugh was born on August 27, 1990 to Richard and Beckie Stambaugh. She has three brothers and three sisters! Makayla trained at Byers Sacramento under Eli and Debbie Rodriguez during her club career.
In 1999, Makayla placed fourth all-around at the USAIGC Nationals. She began competing as a level ten in 2002. Makayla finished second all-around at the Delta Challenge and Desert Devil Classic. At the Nor-Cal State Championships, she finished second all-around again. However, she won the beam title. Makayla breezed through Regionals, ending her season at the JO National Championships. Makayla had an awesome meet, finishing fifth all-around!
Makayla repeated level ten in 2003. She won the all-around title at States. She also finished first on bars and beam. At Regionals, Makayla won gold medals on vault, bars, floor and in the all-around. Her only silver was on beam. At the JO National Championships, she moved up one spot to fourth place. This qualified her for the JO National Team. Makayla, or Mack, also won the beam gold. After the level ten season, she made junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic in Texas.
During the 2004 season, Makayla made a splash on the international elite scene. She started her season by winning the Roseville Invitational and taking third at the Golden State Classic. She re-qualified to international elite status at the Pikes Peak Cup. Her first elite competition of the year was the American Classic. She finished 12th all-around. This qualified her for the team competition, which was held the next day. In May, she traveled to New York for the US Classic. Makayla finished ninth all-around. This qualified her for the US National Championships. Makayla ended this two-day competition in tenth place. She successfully made the Junior National Team!
The 2005 season started off with an international meet against Japan. Makayla won the floor title. She competed in a few open invites. She finished second all-around at the Golden State Classic and first all-around at the Spirit of the Flame competition. The elite season started in July at the US Classic. She made a few mistakes by managed to qualify for the US National Championships. At Nationals, she made her second junior national team!
In 2006, Makayla finished second all-around at the Golden State Classic and Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She also competed in Chicago at the IGI Chicago Style. Makayla also decided to compete level ten only due to personal reasons. Makayla returned to competition in 2007. She finished second all-around at the Crystal Cup. She won vault and beam. At the Golden State Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. She placed second on bars. Makayla finished third on vault and second on floor at the WOGA Classic. At the AOGC Invitational, she won vault, beam and the all-around. At the Byers Invitational, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Makayla won the beam, floor and all-around state titles. She also earned a spot on the Norcal State Team. At Regionals, she finished third all-around despite falling on beam. Unfortunately, she could not compete at JO Nationals because of an injury.
Makayla had a fantastic 2008 season. She began the season by winning floor at the Brestyan's Invite. She fell on uneven bars but still placed second all-around. At the California Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. She again won the all-around at the AOGC Invitational and Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she won five gold medals individually. Her all-around was the highest out of every age division, earning her a place on the Norcal State Team. At Regionals, she won vault, beam and the all-around. Makayla finished her season by winning beam, floor, and the all-around at JO Nationals.
She had a strong senior season in 2009. She started her season by winning five gold medals at the Twistars Invitational. At the Lady Luck Invitational, she won vault, floor, and the all-around. Her next meet was the Tachi Palace Invitational. She finished first on bars, floor, and the all-around. At the WOGA Classic, she placed first on beam and floor. She finished second all-around. At the Long Beach Open, Makayla won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. Her last invitational meet of the season was the Byers Invitational. She finished first on vault, beam, and the all-around. Makayla had a near perfect meet at States. For the second year in a row, she won five gold medals individually. She also totaled the highest score of all the level tens, becoming a State Team Member for the third year in a row. She also helped Byers win the team title. At Regionals, Makayla finished second on vault and floor. She won bars. She finished third all-around despite a fall on beam. At JO Nationals, she won her second all-around title. She tied for first on bars and beam. She placed second on floor and third on vault. Makayla will begin her career at Oregon State in the spring of 2010.
