On February 18, 1993, Jessica Staples was born to Mike and Elaine. She has four siblings, Haley, Katie, Sami and Jake. Haley and Katie are twins. Haley is a state track champion and Katie is a varsity softball player. Sami plays basketball, soccer, softball and track. Jake does basketball, soccer, and football. Jessica trained at St. Charles Gymnastics for several years. She switched to Cincinnati Gymnastics in the fall of 2005. After two years of training at Cincinnati, she returned home to St. Charles.

In 2003, Jessica competed a full level eight season. She moved up to level nine for the 2004 season. She won the Twisters Invitational. Jessica placed fourth all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She won the Vegas Vacation Invitational. Jessica competed at States and Regionals.

She continued competing as a level nine for the 2005 season. She won the St. Nicholas Invitational. Jessica won the bronze in the all-around at the Metroplex Challenge and Twisters Invitational. Her next all-around win was at the Gateway Challenge. She also won the IGI Chicago Style and Cupid's Twist Invitational. At the Level 9 State Championships, she won vault, beam and all-around titles. At Regionals, she won vault, floor and the all-around title! Jessica was in position to win the Level 9 Eastern Championships until she fell on her last floor pass. She still finished sixth all-around and second on beam! After recommendations from a few coaches, she began to train at Cincinnati Gymnastics with Enrique Trabino.

Jessica moved up to level ten in 2006. She qualified to the JO National Championships. Jessica placed third on uneven bars and won beam! She was seventh in the all-around! After JO Nationals, she went to the National Team Training Center. Despite a broken foot, Jessica qualified to junior international elite at the US National Championships. Unfortunately, she was not able to compete. After two seasons off, Jessica competed level ten in the fall of 2008. In January of 2009, she finished fifth all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. She won bars, beam and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. In April, she scored her season-high all-around of a 37.425 for second place at the Big Dream Classic. She won beam with a 9.650. She ended her season with a 15th place finish at Regionals.
